December is usually about looking back. We tally up the year. We look at what we did, what we missed, and what changed.
So this year, let’s do something different. Let’s look forward. We want you to visualize the person you are going to be in 2026.
To the “You” of Next Year
You are stronger than you were this year. Not just physically, but mentally. You know things now about your own resilience that you didn’t know before. You know who shows up for you. You know what actually matters.
In 2026, you aren’t just a “patient” anymore.
You are a father who has the energy to coach the baseball team again. You are a grandmother who can finally book that trip to the beach without worrying about a treatment schedule. You are a professional getting back into the rhythm of your career without the daily interruption of doctor visits.
Building your new normal
We often tell patients that recovery isn’t a light switch. It is a sunrise. It happens gradually. As you head into January, give yourself some grace.
Your energy will come back, but maybe not all at once. That is okay. You don’t need to run a marathon in January. Maybe the goal is just walking the neighborhood loop three times a week.
Listen to your body. It has been through a lot. Treat it kindly. If you need guidance on what to expect during this transition, the American Cancer Society’s guide to life after treatment is an excellent resource for navigating these emotions.
We are still on your team
Even as you transition out of daily treatment, remember that we are still here for you. You have spent a lot of time with our team this year, and that relationship doesn’t just end because the calendar flips.
We are honored to have been part of your 2025, but we are even more excited to see what you do with your 2026.
Happy Holidays from all of us.
